The Empty Bed (2014)
I’ve always had a queen size bed. As long as I can remember. And I remember only ever sleeping on one side.
With yearning, I look over at the empty spot, dreaming and hoping for the day when I’d have my partner here with me. It’s like that spot on the bed had been saved for that person my entire life. And after heartache, it feels like that spot will be vacant forever.
In the morning he left, and as night reclaimed the Earth I found myself alone again in my corner of the bed. The tears don’t make wishes come true. The pain doesn’t bring anyone back. That half of the bed will remain empty indefinitely, and I’ll cling to my claimed side and resume hoping.
Where are you? I’ve been saving you a spot.
